What does this do?

Making sure there’s fresh water in paddocks is a must. If you don’t have a piped supply, a bowser is a necessary addition to your equipment. At its most basic, it’s a large tank (this model holds 600 litres). There is a large diameter cap at the top of the unit to enable easy filling and the outlet is a 1.8m pipe (approx. 5cm diameter) with a ¼ turn tap. Fill the tank from the supply - empty the tank via the pipe into your troughs. The cap is ventilated so the water flows quickly and easily.

If you need to, you can specify a pump which can discharge the contents into elevated tanks or troughs. This allows you to also get a rapid discharge system which sprays the water over a wide area in a short time (600l. in about 5 minutes). This is useful for ‘damping down’ arenas when it gets hot and dusty in the summer months. If you have a powered pump, there is also a suction pump hose kit available which allows you to fill the bowser from any available fresh water source.

Why do I need one?

Nobody wants to have thirsty horses, now do they? ...and all that dust can make you cough! And when you consider it, your horse’s nose and mouth are closer to the ground than yours are (unless you don’t fasten the girth strap properly).

Where do I use it?

Paddocks, yards - anywhere you need water transporting to! Never leave any implements out after use where animals can come into contact with them - you can work out why!

How does it work?

The SLB600 bowser is a lot bigger than the SLB100. And water is heavy stuff. A tonne of it weighs... a tonne! Anyway, you get the idea that low ground pressure could be very useful when towing it about. With the SLB600 system you can fill a lot of troughs with cool, fresh water in a fraction of the time taken using other means and with a lot less damage to your precious paddock than using a tractor. It has advantages over piped systems also: you can move troughs about if you use a bowser, and this stops the poaching of the ground that often occurs around a fixed trough. I mean, if you had to stand up to your ankles in mud every time you wanted a drink, you wouldn’t be very happy about it, would you?
