Regular topping of paddocks during the growing season will provide good grazing during the summer months as well as protection for the paddock surface during the winter. Topping also helps stop any weeds developing. With the range of cutting height adjustment it is easy to maintain the grass at the optimum height for your requirements. This ATV rotary topper performs superbly, giving a quick, neat, even cut across the width of the machine. As this machine is self-powered it can be used behind a wide range of vehicles and excludes the need for a tractor.
The Logic TRM rotary mower comes in two width sizes: the TRM150, 1.5 metre model is best suited for topping larger areas of even ground whereas the TRM120, 1.2 metre model is a more appropriate choice for use on rougher, more uneven ground.
The 1.2 metre model has a choice of engines - either the 13hp Honda unit (which also has the option of an electric start) or the 12.5hp Briggs & Stratton engine (no electric start).
The 1.5 metre model comes with a 16hp 'V' twin Briggs & Stratton engine (no electric start option).
To help you decide whether to choose a flail mower or rotary mower, please refer to the MFP flail mower page and and the MFT Scrub Buster page. Also, view the videos available on the website, particularly the "Mower choice" video or speak to Logic.
This ATV Rotary Mower has its own on-board engine which drives three rotary blades in the deck of the machine.
There is a quick and simple height adjustment, giving a range of 20mm - 160mm grass height. The remote throttle allows you to adjust the engine speed from the comfort of your driving seat. There is also an engine kill switch, a safety feature which immediately stops the engine if pulled. The offset drawbar facilitates easy cutting under trees, hedges, etc.
Grass grows quickly given the right conditions but if it gets too lush there could be a risk of laminitis in some horses or ponies. On a purely practical level, keeping the grass to the recommended length provides good grazing for your horse, but also makes the removal of droppings much easier. Horses will not graze in their ‘latrine’ area and so the grass there becomes long and rank, making the regular removal of droppings that much harder. It’s definitely a case of ‘little and often’ and paddock topping and muck removal go hand in hand when it comes to good paddock management.
