Ed Davies (pictured), from the supplying dealer Taylors Tools Ltd in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, approached us to supply a rotary mower and a TST400 tipping trailer for one of his customers, a wheelchair user. The customer was buying a new Honda Pioneer 520, which was having hand controls added, and he wanted to be able to cut the grass on his paddocks.
Our standard TRM150B16FWES would have required the customer to get out of the Pioneer to put on the choke, start the engine, and operate the throttle before he could start cutting grass, and then get out again to stop it. That wasn't ideal, so we set out to find something better.
Our R&D team found an electric-start Briggs & Stratton engine with an automatic choke, which solved some of the problems, and then sourced an electric actuator to operate the throttle control. Once our regional manager brought it all together, the customer had a single control box in the Pioneer that lets him start, throttle, and stop the mower without leaving his seat.
Both the mower and the trailer were also fitted with jockey wheels for easy hitching on and off.
Our thanks to Ed and the team at Taylors Tools, and we hope the customer enjoys many seasons of easy mowing.
