CTM600W Bracken Control

Controlling large areas of bracken at Bradgate Park

Bradgate Park Trust rangers have expanded their weed wiping capabilities with the addition of a CTM600W 6m tractor-mounted weed wiper purchased through their Logic Dealer, Andrew Shepherd of All-4.

Bradgate Park is a public access park in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire, England. It covers 850 acres, and the park rangers have already been running a CTF250DSK Contact 2000, 2.5m weed wiper for a number of years but needed to increase their capacity to wipe large areas of bracken to manage the parkland and keep the bracken under control.

Matt Smith from Bradgate Park commented: “The majority of Bradgate Park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) & with an estimated one hundred thousand visitors a year, it’s become an important part of the ranger’s land management keeping on top of the bracken”.

He went on to say: “ Reducing the bracken coverage around the heavily used public access areas helps reduce the breeding grounds for pests such as ticks and using the Contact 2000 weed wiper technology from Logic is key to this leaving all underlying grassland & wildflowers unharmed during chemical applications”.

“Having the larger 6m tractor-mounted machine will give us the extra coverage to get the job done efficiently with the limited time frame we have for wiping the bracken during the season”.

Bradgate Park also falls into one of the catchment areas for the Severn Trent Environmental Protection Scheme (STEPS), allowing the trust to utilise the STEPS grant funding towards purchasing the CTM600W weed wiper.
