The BC150 UTV ATV Bracken Crimper has a 1.5m wide crimping roller which is robustly made with a heavy-duty steel bars for strength and performance. The main chassis has a hot dipped galvanised finish for longevity.
The BC150 bracken crimper is a tow-behind, non-chemical vegetation management implement. It is engineered to bruise and fracture (crimp) bracken stems without cutting them. This bleeds the plant's rhizome system to naturally control growth over time
When used with an ATV or UTV the low ground pressure of the towing vehicle means that the BC150 crimper is excellent when a tractor would be too heavy or cumbersome on the terrain associated with Bracken infestation.
Optional transport wheels (BC151) can be specified to easily transport the BC150 from steading to hill.

Crushing, breaking, bruising, ‘crimping Bracken’, can be easier in difficult to access locations, such as hill slopes where cutting may prove difficult and as an alternative to herbicide in organic farm situations. Success depends on the degree of damage to the plant. Using the heavy-duty Logic BC150 will ensure that enough damage ‘crimping’ will occur to the surface rhizomes that will deplete the stores of carbohydrates and nutrients held in the rhizome, eventually killing the plant.
Crushing fronds at least twice a year (first in May/June, then in July/August) to stop the plant from feeding its roots, the primary deeper, storage rhizomes, through photosynthesis
The Logic BC150, in conjunction with a suitable All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), can treat areas where a larger machine cannot go, such as amongst gorse or under trees. Repeat the treatment for at least 3 years if you crush twice per season, and 5 years if you crush only once annually. This technique is also useful as a follow-up treatment on sprayed areas.
Long-term bracken mechanical control can effectively reduce bracken infestation, but monitoring and follow-up treatments, together with grazing management, are essential to maintain and safeguard valuable grassland, reduce displacement of grazing onto more valuable and vulnerable habitats, and reduce litter harbouring the early life stages of sheep ticks.
